ADIL were approached by the client to provide consultancy regarding the likely cost of developing a prospective field onshore Mozambique. The field is an exploration prospect, and so the development concepts and cost estimates were to be delivered at a high level. ADIL offered the use of our ACE:Facilities tool to carry out the work in a limited timescale.

ADIL uses a licensed software tool that use to build wellhead-to-export simulation models to define and optimise field and equipment configurations. ADIL refine these to derive workable full life facilities solutions and then derive equipment lists and weight estimates, which are used to produce cost estimates.

ADIL’s approach was to:

  • Establish suitable assumptions for the development, including: field layout, well temperature and pressure, fluid composition, water production, export battery limits and new infrastructure requirements
  • Use the software tool to generate development concepts for the two reserves cases, incorporating well pads, manifolds, flowlines, central processing facility (CPF), infrastructure, export pipeline and oil storage tank; the models were used to define a technically feasible concept for the development, as well as establish capital cost estimates
  • Develop a high level schedule for the development, and including cost estimates for activities that will be undertaken prior to the project being sanctioned
  • Run a number of sensitivities relating to aspects of the development including power generation philosophy; modularisation and fabrication location; module size limits; distance from final point of delivery
  • ADIL provided expertise in concept development, onshore stick-built approach and related provision of infrastructure in remote areas
  • The study outputs allowed the client to compare the development costs for a range of potential reserves and development options, and in turn evaluate the field potential, and to make a decision on whether to proceed with a licence bid application
  • The use of ACE tools enabled the study to be completed in less than two weeks
  • The exercise was documented from start to finish in a final report, and summarised in a presentation that was given to the client’s board
